MUMBAI: Come midnight, and those itching for the iPhone can finally lay their hands on it. Airtel says it will keep 6 of its stores open across 6 cities, all night long if there are customers. Vodafone will also keep some stores open till about 2 AM.
Harit Nagpal, Marketing Director, Vodafone Essar, said, "We've set up an appointment mechanism for our customers so that they can go book, seek an appointment, at their convenient time, come and spend half an hour, 45 minutes with our Apple-trained agents who'd be happy to help and explain the functionalities to the customers so that they can go back and make the most of it."
Airtel will launch the iPhone in 400 of its stores from Friday morning onwards and Vodafone in 250 stores. The enthusiasm at these outlets is palpable.
Prithipal Chahal who is buying 4 iPhones said, "I'm pre-booking four phones - one for myself, one for my wife, and gifting the other two to friends.
It's the best phone - nothing else compares with it at all."
However not many are happy with the pricing like Sachin Khurana said, "My budget is 20-25, so this is too expensive for me. Hopefully prices will drop in six months. Bmy office colleagues have saved up for it and they are all going to get one. I wish I had the money too."
Sources say bookings for the iPhone have run into lakhs. But how many will actually buy it now that the prices have been announced, is the question.
People are still trickling into Vodafone stores like this one to pre-book their iPhones just hours before it is officially launched across the country. For gizmo freaks like them, this is probably nothing short of a historic m
